Outdoor Classroom
- Outdoor education enhances and adds depth to student learning. In the hectic lives of teens, who are often times plugged in, being outdoors in nature provides an opportunity to slow down, observe, imagine, and create. This leads to a healthier mind, body and spirit for our students.
- In our SPHS Courtyard ecology students can study the benefits of using rain gardens in our community. Students are also able to study how each of the native plants in the rain garden add biodiversity and help filter pollutants from run off.
- All teachers will be able to sign up through Google Forms to use the outdoor classroom space. Each teacher will alert the main office to their location. Teachers and students will be aware of all exits in the case of a fire drill.
- The outdoor classroom will provide students with a chance to study nature, design garden beds, grow their own food, observe pollinators in action, study native plants, create art installations, read, write poetry, study, collaborate, de-stress in the mediation garden, and understand the benefits and interdependency of biodiversity.
